Robert Welch Designs are making the cut

The Signature Knife range and knife block from Robert Welch Designs has just won an iF (International Design Forum) 2010 product design award. This set of knives and knife block were designed in-house by Paul de Bretton Gordon and Rupert Welch. “At Robert Welch we always strive to ensure that our products function beyond expectation and we’re delighted that yet again this has been recognised by an international jury of design professionals using very strict judging criteria,” comments Rupert Welch the managing director of Robert Welch Designs.

It is the attention to detail that sets this knife range and block apart. Each knife has been designed for comfort in the hand and optimum cutting action, with blades and handles set at an ideal angle to minimise fatigue. The precision blades are honed and tempered to razor sharpness with World Edge Geometry and the block contains a patented Robert Welch Signature knife sharpening mechanism for easy knife care and consistently sharp knives - what every chef needs. After being tested by Sheffield's, these knives were found to be in the top three per cent for initial sharpness and edge retention. With these credentials it is no surprise the knives received the iF award for meeting criteria in the following categories: design quality; choice of materials; finish; degree of innovation; functionality; ergonomics; environmental impact; visualisation of intended use; safety; brand value and universal design.
