Cabinet making in Colombia

By SuperyachtDesign. Feb 08, 2010

Fernando Jimenez Neira and Luis Fernando Jimenez Gomez, the father and son team from Jimeco, visited the SuperyachtDesign offices recently as part of a visit to European clients. It was an excellent opportunity for SYD to catch up with the innovative artisans and learn more about what they produce. Jimeco is based in Bogota, Colombia, and works together with designers to create custom one-off pieces of furniture for residences and yachts. They work with a lot of specialist woods, horn and leather to create stunning pieces of furniture. One recent project was working with Greenline Interiors to produce pieces for 170-metre Eclipse. While they were with us they shared their business philosophy and showed us many of their finish samples, some involving unusual materials such as egg shells, coconut fibre, horn and goat leather with different treatments for a huge range of colours and textures.

"We help designers put into reality their designs with fine finishes—it is a process of craftsmanship that has been industrialised for quality and consistency," Fernando Jimenez Neria, president and founder of Jimeco, explained to SYD. He went on to explain how they work to fulfill designers’ creations and how they limit the photography and publicity of their pieces to protect themselves and the designers work. Working with some of the superyacht industry's leading designers, they take a very personalised approach to their work in order to guarantee its quality.
