Maison&Objet

By SuperyachtDesign. Feb 05, 2010

Every year the biggest designers from around the globe congregate in Paris for the Maison&Objet show.  For five days twice a year, designers and manufacturers will show off their latest and greatest designs in a number of inspirational categories. Included in these categories were ethnic chic, textiles, tableware, an arts and craftsworkshop, interior decoration, accessories and SYD’s personal favourite hall, Scenes d’interieur, which showcases products that exemplify luxury and extravagance.

This was SYD’s first venture to the show and whilst there were some companies that were already associated with the superyacht world (Loro Piana, Baccarat, Christofle), many of the products and people there had not had contact with superyachts before.  SYD was not put off by this and after picking our way through the giant halls of fresh ideas we came back with a plethora or new, suitable products from Parisian, Japanese, American and British exhibitors all excited by the prospect of being involved in superyacht design.

Whilst we were there we bumped in to 11 year Maison&Objet attendee Jamie Horton from Harlequin.  “We find this show an invaluable source for gauging new design trends for the coming season.  Sadly this year there were less new products than normal and we put this down to manufacturers remaining cautious and keeping investment to a minimum” commented Horton. “However on a more positive note, smaller companies are working harder to attract customers and we did find some marvellous new products that will no doubt find their way onto yachts during 2010.”

Over the next few weeks SYD will bring you the fruits of these great designers around the world, so watch this space.

The next Maison&Objet will be held in September 3-7 2010
