Superyacht UK's Design Competition Winner

The 2010 Tullet Prebon London International Boat Show saw Superyacht UK (SYUK) announce the winner of the SYUK design competition. The lucky winner of the competition was 21 year old Mark Norton-Mendez, who has now secured a place to represent British excellence at the Abitare La Barca Concept Award, taking place from 10-11 February at Seatec, Italy. The Abitare La Barca Concept Award is open to students from the Faculties of Industrial Design, Naval Engineering and Architecture on the subject of ‘living areas on sail and motor boats.’

The SYUK design competition enables design students in the UK to compete on an international stage. Students from partner organisation, Coventry University, sent profiles accompanied by an article on their design ethos, interest in boat design and understanding of the Superyacht industry, to a panel of judges from the Superyacht UK association in December.

“We are excited to be sending Mark to represent British excellence at the Abitare La Barca Concept Award. His work is truly outstanding, and we are confident that he will be a strong contender for the prize", Superyacht UK’s Tom Chant commented. "SYUK is pleased to be supporting young British designers, and we intend to grow this competition year on year to encourage more students to be recognised in international markets.”
