Justin Ratcliffe
Scott Henderson is an American designer who heads the New York-based design studio Scott Henderson Inc. and is also principal and founder of MINT. He designs, manufactures and distributes objects to over 450 retailers and museums throughout the world, including the Museum of Modern Art and the London Design Museum. Scott was profiled in Q8 of SuperyachtDesign when he exhibited his Slat Chair at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York. Now the young designer has developed a sculpture called Vulgaris, from the Latin name Octopus vulgaris, to be auctioned at Humanscale’s Faces in the Wild fundraiser on November 3rd in London, to benefit the World Wildlife Fund. Depicting the eight-limbed creature pushing away from the ocean floor, Vulgaris is made from solid, CNC-machined aluminium alloy, from sketches and 3D electronic data sculpted by Scott Henderson. The sculpture is 30cm tall by 19cm in diameter, and weighs 3kg.
Perhaps Paul Allen, the owner of 127-metre Octopus, would be interested in making a bid?
